Whole Foods Market is reportedly planning another Philadelphia-area expansion, this time in Fishtown. The grocer is targeting approximately 9,400 square feet at 1716 Frankford Avenue, part of a mixed-use development currently under construction that will include 40 apartment units above ground-floor retail space.
The proposed store would give Fishtown its first major grocery chain within the neighborhood. While Whole Foods has not confirmed the format, the size closely matches its newer Daily Shop concept, which recently announced a Philadelphia location in Fitler Square.
The project is contingent upon approval of a dedicated loading zone along Frankford Avenue, a proposal that received strong support from residents during a recent neighborhood meeting. Construction is expected to be completed within the next year.
