Redner’s Markets opened its newest supermarket this morning at Kirkwood Plaza Shopping Center in Wilmington, Delaware. The approximately 52,000-square-foot store occupies a former ACME supermarket and marks Redner’s entry into New Castle County.
The new location introduces Redner’s Fresh Market 2.0 concept, which places greater emphasis on prepared foods, convenience and in-store dining than the company’s traditional warehouse-style supermarkets.
The store features five foodservice concepts, including Earl’s Smashburgers, Big Gary’s Famous Chicken and Fisher’s Pier. The expanded prepared-food offerings are designed to attract customers seeking freshly made meals in addition to traditional grocery shopping.
The Wilmington opening represents an important step in the Pennsylvania-based grocer’s evolution as it expands its geographic footprint and introduces a more foodservice-oriented supermarket format. Redner’s is already developing another location featuring the Fresh Market 2.0 concept in Berks County, Pennsylvania.
The new format reflects a broader grocery industry trend toward incorporating restaurant-style offerings and prepared meals into traditional supermarkets.
