Whole Foods Market is continuing to expand its smaller-format “Daily Shop” concept, with new stores planned for Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia over the next two years. The Philly location is slated for Center City on the 2200 block of South Street, according to a Whole Foods press release.
The Daily Shop format is designed specifically for dense urban neighborhoods, offering a more streamlined version of the traditional Whole Foods experience. These smaller stores focus on curated assortments, grab-and-go meals, pantry staples, and efficient shopping layouts aimed at customers making quicker, more frequent trips.
Whole Foods says the format plays an important role in the company’s physical retail growth strategy and is being used as a testing ground for new merchandising and layout strategies. Product placement, fixtures, and store flow are intentionally designed to improve navigation and speed up purchasing decisions, while also giving the company insights that may influence future store designs across the chain.
The concept first launched in New York City in 2024 and has since expanded to multiple locations in the New York metro area, Virginia, and London. Whole Foods says customer response has been strong enough to support continued expansion domestically and internationally.
